First snow

with one comment

Well… first substantial snow.

Its always exciting for me to see Gretchen’s reaction to new stuff. She did see some snow last year but she couldn’t communicate her excitement.  This year she couldn’t contain herself. We read her a story called “Welcome To Your World Baby” about a new big sister who teaches her new baby how to do everything , including how to catch snowflakes on her tongue. She spent an hour trying to catch snowflakes, so cute!!

After we warmed up with some hot chocolate.

’tis the season…

with 2 comments

…for me to disappear!

This time of year I usually spend as much time with Gretchen,  and now Stella too,  to make up for some lost time. Once the wedding season starts,  I’m away from home almost every Saturday and Sunday. So the winter is when I catch up!

We just got back from a day trip to Maple Row in Easton, Connecticut.  We began a tradition last year where we  go with our friends Karen and Hermann to choose and cut our very special Christmas tree.   By the way, Hermann was one of the brilliant architects that designed our home!

Christmas casualties!

Morbid I know.  Gretchen got a little upset when I cut the tree down.  Kind of funny, how even a 3- year- old realizes that maybe there is something just not quite right about this whole tradition!  haha  So, when Cath saw this tractor of chopped trees, she labeled it the Christmas casualties.

Back to work!

with 5 comments

First off, thank you all so much for the all the e-mails and comments on the blog. I am so thankful that everyone cared so much to take time out of their day to wish us all well. I really do have the best bunch of friends and clients any person could ever ask for!

For all of you that left me messages at the office I am going to try and return all the calls today. I will be completely honest It’s not going to be easy to get back to where I left off. I have spent the last three days at home building forts and playing with all the new toys Stella bought for Gretchen! (that worked perfectly by the way)

I will leave you with some photos of Gretchen and her new stuff! Her favorite of course, are the animals and their babies. Here she is with the mommy elephant.

welcome to the world stella

with 32 comments

9:46 this morning I realized that it is possible to fall in love instantly.

My amazing wife gave birth to our second baby girl, Stella, with Gretchen by her side. I am bursting with pride. I am so lucky to be married to such a strong woman. This was not your typical birth. Catherine has been contemplating a water birth since she was pregnant with Gretchen, but at that time, ultimately decided to go forward with a hospital birth.  With support of a wonderful doctor, Laurie Solomon, Catherine delivered gretchen with no pain relievers or complications. I thought that was incredible!

The decision to have Stella at home came at the last moment (literally 3 weeks ago). Catherine contacted Martha Roth, a highly respected midwife in our area, and she was a perfect fit. I picked up the birthing pool and set it up in the living room waiting for Stella’s arrival. Her due date came and went (fortunately for me, because I had two weddings last weekend). Everyone kept saying that Tuesday sounded like a good day, I agreed!

This morning I got up like every other day and went to walk the dog. Cath said she felt different. “Ok, I will be right back.” Half way through the walk I got a call, “Come home I’m definitely in labor.” I got home at 8:45, called Martha (the midwife) and immediately started filling the birthing pool. Catherine’s contractions were getting stronger and stronger every minute.  As soon as Cath got into the birth pool, her urge to push was strong.  I freaked a little so I called Martha again,  “Tell her I’m on my way and enjoy the ride!” Not even 15 minutes after Martha and Cath’s mom arrived, Stella’s head was crowning. (I have photos, but will spare you all) after the next contraction, Stella was out. Cath caught her under the water and her 1 hour and 45 minute labor and delivery was over. Amazing!! What an amazing strong person Cath is. I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m preaching home/water birth, I’m just so proud of her and I want everyone to know.

Of course there are photos to go along with this story.  Don’t worry Im keeping them all PG!

Gretch and Cath yesterday morning before I went to work.

Cath in the pool with Gretchen rubbing her hand.

Gretch cheering Cath on after Stella was born.

The scale Martha used to measure Stella’s weight.

and finally….

here she is.

maroon 5, jones beach

with one comment

You may think this post is being written by a 14 year old girl, but its not. I love maroon 5. I had to jump through hoops to get these tickets starting with pre-buying a “b” side album on iTunes. Crazy.

It was so worth it. If you have not been to a show at Jones Beach, (sponsored by Nikon I might add) you need to go. I don’t care if you go see something lame just get tickets.  That place is magical.

My brother Randy shares in this maroon 5 obsession so it was only fitting that he was there as well. Oh and some nice photos of Catherine entering her last and final month with baby Stella, coming very very soon.
